It’s no secret that the demand for plant-based food is soaring. It’s become a mainstream movement and daily part of British food culture. Meatless Farm is the UK’s fastest-growing meat alternatives company on a mission to make it as easy as possible for people to reduce their meat consumption.
Recreating the meatiness
Launched in 2016, the Leeds-based powerhouse creates plant-based mince, burgers and sausages available across all major supermarkets nationwide. Meatless Farm is at the forefront of plant-based innovation, developing a range that replaces everyday meat products with heathier, kinder alternatives whilst also delivering on taste and texture; the biggest barriers to people eating more plant-based food. Their products are made by an expert and unique team of food scientists and chefs.
This summer, they reworked their burger and sausage recipes removing soya and focusing on pea protein to create an even meatier taste and texture. The range is perfect for creating classic home-cooked meals such as spaghetti Bolognese, toad in the hole or a classic bbq burger. There’s no compromise on taste or texture and the products can be cooked in the same way as their meat counterparts – so there’s minimum fuss too, which is always good! The range provides a high-quality source of protein whilst also being a good source of fibre and gluten free.
Slowing climate change starts on our plates
Cutting intensively farmed meat consumption is essential to saving the environment. Sir David Attenborough is just one of many environmentalists who are saying reducing meat eating is vital to stopping cataclysmic damage to the planet. Meatless Farm was started because Morten Toft Bech began researching ways to cut down on meat and the wider issues around meat reduction. What really struck him was discovering more about how what we eat impacts the environment. This remains core to Meatless Farm today with a mission of reducing the world’s dependency on intensively farmed meat.
In 2019, Meatless Farm launched the Meatless Consumption Target, a campaign aimed at encouraging UK households to eat one more plant-based meal per week by 2021. The campaign used scientific data analysis which highlighted that if everyone in the UK swapped just one more red meat meal to a plant-based meal per week, it could cut the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50 million tonnes – the equivalent of taking 16 million cars off the road – resulting in up to an 8.4% reduction in the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions. The environment depends on us eating differently and this can be driven through more people making small changes like swapping red meat for plant-based alternatives.
An appetite for change
There’s been a rise in people eating more mindfully, driven by an increased awareness of personal health and sustainability, heightened by the pandemic. Personal health, the environment and animal welfare are the top 3 drivers for consumers eating more plant-based food.

Meat Free Sausage Tray Bake
Cooking time: 30-40 mins
- 1 pack Meatless Farm Sausages
- 2 medium red onions, peeled and quartered
- 3 garlic cloves, peeled
- 1 sweet potato (250g), diced into cubes
- 1 large courgette, chunky sliced and cut
- 1 red pepper, deseeded and roughly sliced
- 5 chestnut mushrooms sliced and quartered
- 150g cherry tomatoes on the vine
- 2 tbsp fresh oregano or 2 tsp dried
- Olive oil
- Sea salt and cracked black pepper
- Preheat oven 200°C/180°C Fan/Gas Mark 6 with you baking dish/tray inside
- Meanwhile roughly chop up the vegetables as mentioned above
- Remove the dish from the oven and place in all the veg, apart from the tomatoes.
- Drizzle over with a generous portion of olive oil and toss on the tray sprinkle over the oregano and season. Top with the Meatless Farm Sausages and drizzle these with a little more oil.
- Place tray in oven for 20 minutes, remove, turn over sausages and toss veg and add in the tomatoes, return to the oven and cook a further 10 – 15 minutes until all vegetables are cooked.
- Remove from the oven and simply serve directly to the table with an optional extra sprinkle of fresh oregano.
